Traditional Square Dancing

(for BEGINNERS!)

Old Time Square Dances, specifically geared for those who have never square danced before, and for those who can only square dance occasionally

Traditional square dances are those dances which were in common use before 1954. They are simple dances, yet a lot of fun for both necomers and old-hands alike. Traditional Square Dances are the perfect square dance for those who can only come occasionally, and cannot make a committment to come on a weekly basis. All of these dances are walked through and taught thouroughly so that people who have never square danced before can easily join in!

Day & Time: 2nd Wednesday of most Months,

Western Square Dancing

Western Square Dancing, progressively taught over the course of the year (New dancers with no experience welcomed each September and February)

Western Square Dancing as we do it in South Lyon, involves about 50 movements which are progressively learned starting in September. No experience is necessary to start in September or early October, (or in February, when we start our winter classes) but after that, students are expected to know the basics that were taught in previous dances. Good attendance is required. Western Square Dancing is more complicated than Traditional Square Dancing (above) and is much more suited to those who wish to square dance on a regular basis, rather than those who only come occasionally. Bringing a partner is encouraged but not required (we tend to have more ladies than men usually)

Day & Time: 1st, 3rd, and 4th Tuesdays of each month,

7:00-9:30 pm - Starting Feb. 5th, 2008

7:00pm-8:30pm : Lesson for students/new dancers

8:15pm-9:30 pm: Dance for experienced dancers
